"Man’s main task in life is to give birth to himself, to become what he potentially is. The most important product of his effort is his own personality.” Erich Fromm
Counselling and therapy allow a deeper journey into an individual’s world, exploring more profound or persisting issues and concerns that are impacting wellbeing and mental health.
My core therapeutic approach is rooted in Psychosynthesis counselling/ psychotherapy, a transpersonal approach to therapy that integrates many aspects of the human experience, including spiritual, emotional, cognitive, and physical. Psychosynthesis counselling integrates mind, body, feelings and a wider frame of values, meaning and purpose that is beyond tangible here and now.
Psychosynthesis has its roots in psychoanalysis and Jungian therapy, and it incorporates work with conscious and unconscious in expanding the client’s awareness of Self. It recognises the influence of childhood and the deep impact of childhood trauma that has a pervasive and often indirect impact on how we see ourselves and our needs, assert and affirm ourselves and our capacity for connection, love and intimacy.
Tools and techniques used in Psychosynthesis vary to suit each client’s specific needs but include active dialogue and analysis, meditation, visualisations and guided imagery, breathing exercises, and somatic awareness.
I also incorporate tools and techniques from other modalities, such as Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), somatic work, Mindfulness, and Transactional Analysis to provide the most relevant and impactful approach.
I believe that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the key to success and healing. This means treating each individual with compassion, empathy, respect and without judgement.
Where to begin
Starting therapy can be a daunting step. Please call or email me to arrange a complementary call (15-20 min), where we can explore your situation and what you are seeking from therapy in more detail.
Sessions last 50 minutes and facilitated via Zoom/Skype/FaceTime. It may take a couple of sessions to determine if I am the right therapist for you, after which we will set up all the practical arrangements for our regular sessions.
